Iiiiiek! The new song protection worked massacringly fine.
5 frequently played songs on my mp3 player. What are yours?
Gadjo Dilo Soundtrack - Camerata
(Vibrant Gypsy song, the clarinet takes you in and swirls your hips.)
Tori Amos - Do it Again
(Cover of the old Steely Dan song, sulky rythm, brilliant.)
Johnny Cash - Hurt
(Knowing that he passed away shortly after the release makes the song even sader.)
Beatsteaks - Don´t care as long as you sing
(I like to run to that song or sing and have even attempted both at the same time.)
Nina Hagen - TV Glotzer
(An old 80ies classic, freakin´ strange Nina style.)
This week I will post a drawing every day. Infact I will keep that up untill the 13th of June. It is an experiment. I am working towards something. There is no particular storyline behind it. It is more to see how I feel about Loontown on a daily basis and whether I will in the end widen the frame or not. I learn so much from looking at other people´s blog that I often want to experiment more and use different styles, characters, medias, but than of course that temptation can lead me exactly into blending in with a more common voice, a certain trend. How does one stand firm with ones own lines, knowing I have not tested out yet how far I can really go with it, when my little play-devil feels called to shift focus? How long does it take before I surfeit myself with my own characters?

I'm glad to hear there will be a posting everyday!
Can't wait to see how the experiment turns out.

Clash- Police and Thieves
mind you...i'm not checking the accurate titles or spellings...just what i know them by:)
Girl you have been very creative, as usual. We thank you for putting so much work into it...we ALL enjoy it. I am also happy that you are willing to experiment and grow more and more as an artist. I will always remember your art, you are so unique. I will be more surprise when I see the new things you are working on.

It´s good to see there are some fellow classic fans out there!
Cool choice, Joy, I like those songs as well!
Marjorie, nice seeing you :) Hugs back!
I like almost all kind of music, i can hear for example as Beethoven as manic street peachers but I love specially the Jazz to Soul: Ella Fitzgerald, Della Reese, Aretha Franklin..
I also would make a drawing to day but I don´t have time (my work!)although I look you every day :)
Saludos
Thats the one real advantage of working digital, Lu, one is a lot faster. Doing watercolors would take me eternities! (and they would look awful on top of that) I like Jazz, too, the kind with voices :). Recently I´ve gotten interested in bethcuster.com, she has some downloads on her page if you like. Ella is just the Queen!
OH BOY, I'd completely forgotten about Nina Hagen, I freakin' loved her when I was about 17 through till my early 20's. Freakin love I tell you!!!!
To make me sound ultracool (hey, how often does one have the chance?): I saw Nina at the
Limelights in New York, what an experience! She was already gone into the ether with her
UFO religion (or something) but she was SO great! (And one hour late, lol.) What a voice. I favor her old stuff to the later strange things. Two years ago I saw her in Berlin close to a frequently visited Café. As I later saw on TV, they were
filming her biography. She used to live on a street nearby when it was still East Germany. Her mother and her very beautiful daughter are both famous actresses here. That she was known all the way to Australia, wow! (There must be something to that UFO religion ;))
Been away from Loontown too long, now I can see I mustn't miss a day!
Ha - don't get me started on the old music shennanigans. I put it on most of the time, and should try a bit more reflective silence.
I've been enthralled by Mark Hollis, energised by Magazine, delighted by Stravinsky, surprised by Jake Thackeray, soothed by Villa-Lobos, chilled by Morton Feldman, and turned into a bopping dervish by various Ninjatune people (Coldcut, The Herbaliser). And just finished hearing some string quartet pieces based on 24 different birds, which did all those things except the last.
Oop - i said don't get me started!
Johnnynorms, I hope you don´t leave depressed in that case ;) I like reflective silence at home (I hardly ever listen to the radio for example). On my bike or public transportation I prefer to cut out unwanted sound through my mp3 player. "Headphone Silence" as Anne Brun calls it (another good song). You list some interesting names, I am always looking for new music :) Which reminds me: how are plans going with putting up some music on your blog?
