BOW TO BEUYS
Venice Biennial. In the background: the room of Ernesto Neto. In front: Joseph Beuys, The End of the XXth Century, 1983. Enter: Hattie, the cleaning woman.
"Creativity isn't the monopoly of artists. This is the crucial fact I've come to realise, and this broader concept of creativity is my concept of art. When I say everybody is an artist, I mean everybody can determine the content of life in his particular sphere, whether in painting, music, engineering, caring for the sick, the economy or whatever. All around us the fundamentals of life are crying out to be shaped or created."
(Joseph Beuys)
(This is a Bow to Beuys who died on this day 20 years ago, but also a homage to the cleaning woman who once removed a stack of buttery fat from the corner of Beuys´ atelier, believing it to be dirt, while of course it was a sculpture ("Die Fettecke"). That proves art is always a matter of taste - and quite debatable when it comes to definition.)

Hilarious.
Ich finde dass die Putzfrau in diesem Fall als Einzige wirklich Geschmack bewiesen hat. Jawohl!

:)
Thank you, Maricarmen, I would be honored!
Very funny cristosova, and I like your blog in general, a good find through your comment on the flamboyant Scot.
Beuys still intrigues and puzzles me - sometimes I feel a poetic resonance, sometimes I wonder why the 20th Century art books say he's so important. Perhaps you had to be there under his spell?
Anyway, you made me laugh!
Johnny, I pretty much have the same relationship with Beuys than you. I find him overrated for his sculptural work and yet dig his drawings. ... one thing is sure: he challenges the viewer, he inspires the artists, and that is always good!
Thanks for stopping by! :)
